In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 5086  Narrated by Abu Rafi'

I saw the Messenger of Allah (saws) uttering the call to prayer (Adhan) in the ears of al-Hasan ibn Ali (r.a.) when Fatimah (r.a.) gave birth to him.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 2832 Narrated by Samurah ibn Jundub

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘A child is in pledge for his ‘Aqiqah’, sacrifice is made for it on the seventh day, its head is shaved, and it is given a name.’

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 2829  Narrated by Umm Kurz

I heard the Prophet (saws) say: ‘Two sheep are to be sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl, but it does you no harm whether they (the sheep) are male or female.’

Al-Muwatta Hadith 26.2

Yahya related from Malik from Jafar ibn Muhammad that his father said, "Fatimah (r.a.), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (saws), weighed the hair of Hasan, Husayn, Zaynab and Umm Kulthum, and gave away in ‘sadaqa’ an equivalent weight of silver."

The guidance in the Sunnah acts to do when Allah Subhanah blesses one with a off-spring are:

  1. One should announce the Adhaan or call to prayer in the ears of the new born immediately after its birth, so that the first thing the infant hears when it enters this life is the statements of ‘Tauheed’ or the Absolute Oneness of Allah Subhanah.
  2. On the seventh day of the birth, one should offer the sacrifice as a sign of gratefulness unto their Lord for the gift He has provided them with…..One may offer as many animals as sacrifice as one wills, but the minimum one must offer as sacrifice is one sheep for a female child, and two sheeps for a male child.
  3. It is also Sunnah to shave the head of the infant on the seventh day and give away as ‘sadaqa’ an equivalent weight of the hair in silver.
  4. It is also the Sunnah to assign a good name to the off-spring on the seventh day of the birth.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
